Add the land use map of the area close to Prescott. The yellow is private land. The darker green is Granite Mountain National Monument. The lighter green is Prescott National Forest. The Blue squares are Arizona State Trust Land while the pink is BLM land.
The squares are sections that are one mile square so this map shows 28 miles wide by about 19 miles. The neighborhoods in the Prescott National forest such as Iron Springs, Highland Pines, Ponderosa Pines, Groom Creek and Walker were mining claims and were privately owned prior to the establishment of the Prescott National Forest. Most of these claims have since been divided as cabin sites or homesites.
Lakes in the Prescott area are too small to show on this map. See my summary of the lakes in Prescott here.
